True Evangelism

Romans 10:15 How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Usually I only choose one word for this study, but now you see 3 words have been chosen: preach the gospel. Actually these three words are used to translate one Greek word into English. In modern English we often transliterate (the practice of changing a word from one alphabet into another alphabet) this word. Transliterated the Greek euvaggelizo (translated here “preach the gospel”) becomes euaggelizo or evangelize.

The transliterated word evangelize or evangelism does not appear in the King James Bible (except as the noun evangelist). God has given us the definition of evangelism by translating the word instead of transliterating the word. By this method there can be no mistake about the function of true Evangelism.

True evangelism is to preach or communicate the Gospel. If the Gospel has not been communicated evangelism has not taken place. What then is the Gospel? Many believe it to be something a person must do for salvation… but actually it is the account of what Jesus has done for the eternal salvation of sinners.

There are many places in the Bible where the details of the Gospel are explained. One of the clearest passages is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-11. This passage describes the three components of the Gospel: “how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;”, “And that he was buried,”, “ and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” Wonderful words of life!

  2. I Thought the Gospel was to announce the soon coming Kingdom of the Messiah that embodies the Messiahs death burial and ressurection. The Messiah always stated "Repent for the kingdom of the Heavens is at hand this is true preaching of the Gospel that he told his disciples to preach.
